The Town of Greenfield invites you to join us in celebration of Franklin County’s 200th Birthday, Hosted by Greenfield, the County Seat! Activities will be occuring throughout the weekend, including a block party on Main Street on Saturday where the road will be closed to traffic and will feature an expanded farmers market, crafters, vendors, sidewalk sales, community organizations, kids activities, trolley tours, music, and so much more!

Friday, July 22nd

8-10am Bike Tour – Leaving from the Pleasant Street parking lot, just in from Federal Street
Meet at 10am at the Pleasant Street parking lot. Ride through historic areas of the county. Distance and level of difficulty to be determined by cyclers. All levels welcome; led by Chris Ethier of Bicycle World.
8am-2pm Farmer’s Market – Town Common
Enjoy an extended Farmers Market with fresh, locally grown produce, unique crafters and artisans.
8am-4pm Franklin County Oral History Project – Town Common
The Museum of Our Industrial Heritage, in association with the Greenfield Historical Society and Greenfield Community Television (GCTV), will give people in this project the opportunity to share their stories of living and working in Franklin County. A camera will be stationed at the Town Common for those who wish to participate. The recorded stories will then be archived for future generations to learn about life in Franklin County.~Contact John Passiglia at 773-3757 for more information.
8am-4pm Crafters, Vendors, and Activities along Main Street
Main Street will be packed with local crafters, vendors, and non-profit organizations. Stroll down Main Street and take a look at everything they have to offer!
8am-4pm Classic Car Show along Main Street
Main Street will be lined with cars from all different decades. Don’t miss this opportunity to take a peek at some of the most unique vehicles in Franklin County!
8am-4pm Jurassic Road Show & Geology Display – Top of Main Street by the Town Common Learn about the geological history of our area, and bring in your fossils to be identified by prominent paleontologists, Paul Olsen of Columbia University and Mark McMenamin of Mt. Holyoke College. Dick Little and other geologists will also be on hand. Jeannine Atkins, Author of Mary Anning and the Sea Dragon, will be giving a reading from her book, followed by a poetry writing session. Nature illustrator, Annie Chappell, will help people to draw directly from nature.
8am-4pm Franklin County Geocache – Top of Main Street by the Town Common
Mark Dancer and Sean Keller, faculty members at Deerfield Academy and avid geocachers, have designed a new geocache course for Franklin County in honor of the 200 year celebration. Come to their table for more information.
9-11am Library Story Walk: Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs – Starting from Poet’s Seat Tower, up from Maple Street
A Library Story Walk for children and their families, sponsored by the Greenfield Public Library, based on Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs by Byron Barton. From 9-11am, Kay Lyons, children’s librarian, will be on-site to facilitate the experience. Or follow the story trail along the Poet's Seat Ridge at your own pace; available all day.
10am-5pm Sidewalk Sales, Wilson’s Tent Sale, and Maurice’s Fashion Show – Main Street and Sears Avenue

Calling all menfolk! No chin too scruffy, no mustache too wiry. Show us what you’ve got at the beard contest. Contestants will march around the town common at 11:30am sharp to be eligible to win prizes in a variety of categories including “Best Beard,” “Best Mustache,” “Most Historically Accurate” and “Nice Try.”
12noon-3pm American Legion BBQ Chicken Dinner – 7 Legion Avenue (behind Green Fields Market)
The American Legion presents a dinner of BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, baked potato and dessert. Adults, $10/plate; over age 60, $8/plate; kids age 5-12, $5/plate; under age 5, FREE. You probably know Poet's Seat tower. But have you ever been to the top of Sachem's Head? This expedition for all ages will be led by Chris Ethier of Bicycle World.

6-8pm Concert featuring Lucy Kaplansky – Energy Park, 50 Miles Street
Join us at the Energy Park for a Sunday in the Park Concert featuring Lucy Kaplansky. Lucy is a New York City-based acclaimed singer and songwriter who fuses alternative country, roots rock, and folk music with rare style and intelligence.
