Senior Tax Work-Off Applications Available May 1

City of Greenfield Senior Tax Work Off Program applications will be available Monday, May 1 at the John Zon Community Senior Center at 35 Pleasant St. Greenfield homeowners age 60 and over may apply to work off a portion of their real estate tax bill, up to $1,500, by performing duties in a variety of city departments. Participants must have lived in Greenfield for at least 5 years and in Massachusetts for 10 years or more. The program is limited to one participant per household. If accepted into the program, work hours will begin after July 1, and end on or before November 30, 2023. The reduction is taken from the third and fourth quarter tax bills.

According to Senior Center Director, Hope Macary, "This is a great opportunity for seniors to share their considerable skills and talents to benefit the city, while earning a substantial real estate tax reduction. This year's program will accept 15 participants and a lottery will be held if we receive more applications than open slots.”

Full application packets are available beginning May 1 at 9 a.m. and completed applications will be accepted by appointment until May 25 at 3:30 p.m. Application packets may be picked up Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Senior Center’s front desk.
