City Clerk's Office Outlines 2023 November Election Procedures


GREENFIELD – The city of Greenfield will undergo its local election on Tuesday, November 7. Residents from all precincts can vote on election day at the Greenfield High School, 21 Barr Avenue, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. or engage with other voting methods, such as Vote By Mail and Absentee Ballots.

The final day for voter registration to participate in the 2023 election is ten days before election day (Friday, October 27, the clerk’s office will be open until 5 p.m. that day).

Below is an explanation of the Vote By Mail and Absentee Ballot processes:

Vote By Mail

Voters have the option to vote by mail and submit their ballot to the City Clerk’s Office. You can download an application for voting by mail here.

Please note that vote by mail ballot applications MUST be filed annually.

Absentee Voting

There are specific requirements to absentee vote. You can vote by absentee if:

  • You will be away from your city or town on Election Day.
  • You have a religious belief that prevents you from voting at your polling location on Election Day.
  • You have a disability that prevents you from voting at your polling location.

You should fill out an absentee ballot application if you meet the requirements above. Absentee applications can be downloaded or printed here.

To vote on an absentee ballot in person, you can go to the Greenfield City Clerk’s Office during their open hours, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Absentee ballots can also be submitted by:

  • Mail (Send to 14 Court Square Greenfield MA, 01301 and Designate to the City Clerk’s Office)
  • Email (cityclerk@greenfield-ma.gov)
  • Fax (413-772-1542)


Similar to Vote By Mail, all absentee applications MUST be filed annually.

All Vote By Mail and Absentee Ballot applications must be requested to the City Clerk’s Office by Tuesday, October 31. In addition, voters utilizing these methods must submit their ballots to the Clerk’s Office by the time the polls close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7.
