Greenfield Recreation Spotlights New Rec Room 

GREENFIELD – In an expansion of after-school services, the Greenfield Recreation Department recently debuted its new after-school enrichment center, the Rec Room, on the first floor of its 20 Sanderson St. office location. The program is available for up to 30 Greenfield Middle School students to sign up for.

“Together, with programs like this, we can have a really powerful impact on the youth in our community,” said Recreation Director Christy Moore.

The Rec Room's mission is to provide middle school youth with a safe, welcoming, inclusive and supervised environment to socialize, study, recreate and explore new hobbies and interests. The Rec Room will foster the development of essential life skills such as leadership, community involvement, self-confidence, communication and problem-solving to empower youth and help them realize their full potential.

The Rec Room will be open throughout the school year, Monday through Friday, from 2:15 to 5:30 p.m. The room will be available on early dismissal days from 11:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Rec Room will not open during professional development, holidays and school vacations.

Membership to the Rec Room provides unlimited drop-in use during open hours. Members are also eligible to participate in special events, trips, and activities (which may be subject to additional limitations or fees).

Students have enjoyed participating in projects like gardening, papier mâché, clay creations, jewelry making, comic book design and more. They have also enjoyed time spent in the game room playing pool, air hockey, ping pong, foosball and hanging out with friends new and old.

Elias, a Rec Room member, enthusiastically shared with staff, “I don’t want to miss a day”. Other parents have shared how this program has helped their child’s transition into Greenfield Middle School.

Families interested in signing up for the Rec Room can purchase a school year membership for $400, active from September 11, 2023, to June 12, 2024, or purchase seasonal memberships for $150. The winter season membership is active from December 4, 2023, to March 15, 2024, while the spring membership runs from March 18, 2024, to June 12, 2024.
