City Council Seeking Applicants to Fill Precinct 7 Vacancy


GREENFIELD – City Councilor Jasper Lapienski has resigned from the City Council, effective January 1, 2024, leaving a vacancy in Precinct 7. According to the Greenfield City Charter, “the council president, with the advice of the Committee Chairs, may fill that seat by appointing a person residing in that Precinct...subject to a two-thirds vote of the Councilors present,” This appointment will fulfill the unexpired term of Mr. Lapienski until the Biennial Election in November 2025.

City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. at the John Zon Community Center every third Wednesday of the month. Committee assignment(s) would be determined by the President of the Council.

Any registered voter residing in Precinct 7 who wishes to be considered for this position should send a letter of interest, resumes are also appreciated, to the Council’s Office at citycouncil@greenfield-ma.gov by Monday, January 29, 2024 at 4 pm.

Council President John Bottomley anticipates the council to consider a recommendation in February so a new councilor can be appointed at the regular council meeting scheduled for February 21, 2024.
