Greenfield Increases Access to Local Meetings

In a commitment to fostering an accessible government, the City of Greenfield is updating the format for several board and commission meetings.

Here are some board and commission changes that have occurred or are scheduled to take place:

  • Board of Assessors – Began hybrid meetings on February 6. Meetings will now be recorded and posted on GCTV.
  • Board of Health – The Board of Health will implement hybrid meetings beginning on Thursday, February 15. Meetings will now be recorded and posted on GCTV.
  • Parking and Traffic Commission – The commission was inactive for several months. Regular meetings resumed on Tuesday, February 27, following the hybrid/recorded format.
  • Planning Board – The Planning Board will implement hybrid meetings beginning on Thursday, March 7, 2024. The meetings will now be recorded and posted on GCTV.
  • Zoning Board of Appeals – The ZBA will implement hybrid meetings for their next meeting in April 2024. The meetings will now be recorded and posted on GCTV.
  • Conservation Commission – Conservation Commission meetings will remain remote, but recordings will now be posted on GCTV consistently.
  • Historical Commission – The Historical Commission will begin hybrid meetings once the Greenfield Public Library Zoom room opens. The recordings will be posted on GCTV.

Many other committees and commissions, such as the Human Rights Commission, the Community Preservation Committee, the Fire Station Building Committee, the Public Safety Committee and the Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee, will continue to have recordings posted on GCTV.

“Everyone in Greenfield deserves an opportunity to participate in local government,” said Mayor Virginia “Ginny” Desorgher. “These steps to increase meeting access closely align with my goals of creating a more welcoming and transparent City Hall.”

“Accessibility is paramount in ensuring a well-informed community,” said Communications Director Matt Conway. “I am grateful to the various boards and commissions for welcoming this transition. I also want to emphasize GCTV’s significance in this effort. They are an essential institution in our community, and their work posting meetings in a timely fashion is integral in including everyone in local government.”

Greenfield remains committed to expanding access and will explore other avenues for improving open government standards.
