Greenfield Hires Michael Theroux as New Health Director

GREENFIELD – The City of Greenfield welcomes Michael Theroux as its new health director. Theroux will begin in his position on Monday, March 18.

“I am excited about joining the Health Department in Greenfield,” said Theroux. “I look forward to working with the businesses and citizens of this wonderful city!”

“Michael Theroux is uniquely qualified to lead the Greenfield Health Department in protecting the public health of Greenfield,” said Mayor Virginia “Ginny” Desorgher. “I look forward to collaborating with him on addressing the public health challenges facing our city.”

Theroux brings a wealth of experience to the health director role. He previously worked in the Town of Agawam for 20 years, playing a crucial role in various city departments, such as building, engineering, and health. He operated as Agawam’s health director for several years.

His work in the Agawam Health Department became especially significant during the coronavirus pandemic. Theroux helped prepare local protocols to preserve the community’s public health while liaising with the state to implement COVID-19 guidelines for local agencies.

Theroux most recently worked in the Vermont Department of Health. During his tenure, he was a health inspector who enforced compliance for restaurants, hotels and other venues.

Theroux achieved numerous licenses and certifications throughout his career, including for ServeSafe, home inspection, septic inspection, FDA Current Good Manufacturing Practices and FDA retail. Theroux, an Agawam High School graduate, achieved an associate’s degree from Holyoke Community College before graduating with a bachelor’s degree at Westfield State University.
