Diana Schindler Appointed as Interim Chief of Staff

GREENFIELD – Mayor Roxann Wedegartner is appointing Greenfield Finance Director Diana Schindler to serve as the city’s interim chief of staff. Schindler is set to begin her tenure following Chief of Staff Danielle Letourneau’s resignation on July 7.

Schindler started working as the city’s finance director in November 2022, overseeing management during the fiscal year 2024 budget process. She also supervised operations for the city’s Assessor, Accounting, Treasurer/Collector and Procurement departments.

With over 25 years in local government, Schindler has a comprehensive understanding of municipal operations. She previously worked as a town administrator in Colrain, Orange, Deerfield and Hopedale. In her most recent town administrator role in Hopedale, Schindler helped guide the community through the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also served in financial management roles for the Hampshire Council of Governments and Franklin Regional Council of Governments.

Schindler is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and human resource management.

"Director Schindler's extensive experience in municipal government makes her uniquely qualified to assume this role as the interim chief of staff,” said Mayor Wedegartner. “I greatly appreciate her willingness to take on the additional duties of this important position."

“I appreciate the mayor’s confidence in my capacity to handle these substantial responsibilities in the interim,” said Schindler. “I'm committed to supporting the mayor’s tremendous efforts and to support the city to the best of my ability.”

The chief of staff supports city operations, including managing all city departments and coordinating special projects at the mayor’s discretion. The chief of staff performs various management duties involving budgeting, collective bargaining, purchasing and implementing all policies set by the mayor.
